I came into AV from IT and network administration. It sits underneath everything else in a modern system, so it is usually the first place I can spot the cracks. Most control problems I get called into are not control problems at all — they trace back to how the network was laid out, how the devices were addressed, or a dependency nobody accounted for early enough. Knowing both sides means I can tell you which one you actually have.

Over twenty years, across commercial, higher-education, federal, hospitality, and residential systems, I have learned to work the project rather than the task. Before I write code I want to know how the room gets used, who supports it after I leave, and what else on the network it has to live with. The details are where systems fail, so that is where I spend my time.

I also stay reachable and involved, on site or remote. Dealers, clients, and end users all get straight answers from me, and I would rather build a partnership that lasts several projects than sign off on one and disappear.
